Lynchburg College
It’s Not too Late!
Aligning with the College’s Graduate Admission Policy, Lynchburg College’s Clinical Nurse Leader Program is accepting applications for the Fall 2015 cohort until July 31, 2015.
Program Highlights:
- All required course work is online
- 37 credit-hour cohort program
- May be completed in 18 months
- Clinical experiences in healthcare settings
Requirements for Admission:
- Have a baccalaureate degree in nursing
- Hold a current unrestricted registered nurse license in the United States
- Have successfully completed undergraduate courses in Statistics and Health Assessment with a grade of C or higher
- Have current CPR certification and health records
- Meet the essential functions of nursing

SUNY Upstate Medical University
Still Time to Apply to the Post-Master’s DNP Hybrid Program
SUNY Upstate’s College of Nursing in Syracuse, NY is still accepting applicants to its Online, part-time Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. The deadline to apply is July 15 for Fall 2015 entry.
Program Highlights:
- Online, part-time MS-to-DNP track
- Build on your Master’s Degree
- Designed for the working professional
- SUNY tuition is a plus for New York State residents. Financial aid is available
- Approximately 6 credits per semester; 6 or 7 semesters total for DNP
Admissions Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing in one of the following clinical areas:
- Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
- Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (FPMHNP)
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
- Adult/Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)
- Overall GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
- APRN must have current National Board Certification in their designated specialty
- Must have active NYS RN license
- One year of practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse is recommended

Deadline Extensions
South Dakota State University
The application for the South Dakota State University (SDSU) Accelerated BSN in Aberdeen, South Dakota is now open. This is a 12-month, second-degree program that starts in January 2016 and ends December 2016. This program is located on the Northern State University campus in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Students who meet the following entry criteria may apply via NursingCAS:
- A bachelor’s degree in any field conferred by December 31, 2015;
- A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.8;
- A grade of “C” or better in the following prerequisite/support courses, or their equivalents:
- First Year Experience or similar transfer course,
- English Composition I and English Composition II,
- Speech or Debate,
- At least two courses or 6 semester credits of Humanities,
- College Algebra or higher;
- A grade of “C” or better and a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 in the following pre-nursing courses, or their equivalents* (some syllabi may be required to establish equivalencies):
- Lifespan Development,
- Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, or Sociology of Rural America,
- Chemistry Survey & lab or General Chemistry I & lab,
- Organic & Biochemistry & lab or General Chemistry II & lab,
- General Psychology,
- Human Anatomy & lab (completed Spring 2009 or after),
- Human Physiology & lab (completed Spring 2009 or after),
- General Microbiology & lab,
- Human Nutrition (SDSU requires an advanced level Human Nutrition course called NUTR 315 – transfer students must supply a syllabus for their completed Nutrition course to determine course equivalency if equivalency has not yet been established in the Transfer Equivalency Calculator)
- Statistics or Epidemiology.
*Students may have up to four pre-nursing courses to complete at the time of application, but courses must be completed and a degree conferred by December 31, 2015.
- Apply and be accepted to South Dakota State University – Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended must be sent to SDSU Admissions, as well as NursingCAS.
- Additional information, including details on the personal statement, technical standards and eligibility requirements, procedures for transferring from another nursing program, computer requirements, and cost.
The application to this program has been extended until August 15, 2015, or until all seats are filled. Priority is given to students whose application is received by August 1, 2015. New Programs
Shepherd University
Shepherd University is pleased to announce the opening of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program for the Fall 2015 semester. The program recently received full accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Applications are being accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis for the Fall 2015 semester.
The program has two entry points for admission: first, the baccalaureate in nursing to DNP and; second, a post-master’s in nursing to DNP. These different entry points allow the curriculum to be individualized for candidates based on prior education, experience, and choice of specialization. Post-master’s students entering the DNP desiring to change their area of professional practice will be evaluated on an individual basis and may require additional coursework from the professional core or concentration.
Shepherd’s DNP program adheres to the standards identified by the AACN titled the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice Nursing (DNP Essentials). The DNP Essentials identify standard foundational curriculum content and outcomes-based competencies essential for all DNP graduates. The DNP program is conveniently located at Shepherd University Martinsburg Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia with easy access to I-81, Charles Town, WV, Hagerstown, MD, and Winchester, VA.
