Share with Applicants: Upcoming NursingCAS Academic Update
NursingCAS offers 3 Academic Update windows each cycle starting in December and May. An Academic Update allows applicants to update final grades (i.e. Fall 2020) or newly planned coursework (i.e. Spring 2021) since NursingCAS verification. While Academic Updates are optional, some programs require this information for admissions consideration. AACN encourages programs to email applicants a reminder with this information. For the Update, encourage students to submit their request for new transcripts to their Registrar’s Office ASAP, if necessary, before winter break closings. Please share with applicants the three-step process on how to complete the updates and the below time frames for each cycle.
- 2019-20 Cycle – Fall Academic Update II: Dec 1, 2020 – Jan 15, 2021
- 2020-21 Cycle – Fall Academic Update I: Dec 15, 2020 – Feb 21, 2021

 BY THE NUMBERS

During the 2019 – 2020 application cycle, as of August 14, 2020, 55,033 prospective students submitted 75,930 applications using NursingCAS. This represents a 6.4% increase in applicants and applications from the previous cycle.
Please note that the 2019-2020 cycle has been extended until January 31, 2021. This data is reported as of August 14, 2020 to ensure that the numbers are equivalent to the 2018-2019 cycle data.

“The number of students transferring from two-year colleges to four-year institutions increased by 2.6% during the fall, but overall transfer enrollment dropped 4.7%,” according to data released by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.”

“While most people have been wanting to avoid hospitals, nursing students this fall were looking forward to returning to them to continue their education. Clinical placements have become a hallmark of nursing education that students have come to expect, and faculty have relied on to help prepare new graduate nurses.”

“Forty-seven percent of all high school seniors, and 56 percent of those from low-income families, have not started applying to college, according to a survey of 31,000 seniors by Niche and Tudor Collegiate Strategies. Given that the students were identified through services used for college applications, the news suggests a reason for more colleges to step up outreach to potential students.”
